The new Koh Chang Guide is now available online. As always, it's full of useful information if you are planning to visit Koh Chang or if you already are in Koh Chang. Keep the paper version in your bag, it doesn't take a lot of place and you will have all Koh Chang Maps. You can get it almost anywhere on the island, ask to your hotel or resort's reception, I'm sure they have a copy for you... and it's free!

Christmas is coming fast, and Koh Chang is getting more and more busy. If you haven't booked your hotel or resort yet for Christmas Eve or New Year's Eve, hurry up! It may be already too late to get the best places but if you still don't know where to stay, have a look at my recommendation list: Where to stay

Have you already planned where to spend Christmas Eve? At your resort or outside in a restaurant?
Here are some ideas:

I've been very busy to answer to all emails and messages and I didn't have so much time left to post new updates.
The high season has started and you can see it on beaches which are not desert anymore.
The end of the year will be busy again and if you are planning to spend Christmas or New year's Eve on Koh Chang and if you still haven't booked anything, hurry up, most of good places are already fully booked. And if you still don't know where to go, have a look at my recommendation list, there are places for all styles and all budgets. They have been dispatched by area or beach if you prefer. And if you still don't find what you're looking for, check the Awarded Resorts 2017 list, also listed by beach.
If you are wondering how to travel from Bangkok Suvarnabhumi airport to Koh Chang, here are the different way from the cheapest to the most expensive (which is maybe not the fastest):
- Government bus.
From Ekamai Bus Station in Bangkok to the ferry pier in Trat. It's about 260 baht per person. Then you will have to buy your ferry ticket, take the ferry and take a shared taxi once in Koh Chang.
Here is the timetable!
- Shared minibus.
I don't recommend this transport for the reason they are most of the time over-loaded and they drive very fast. Spending 4 hours stuck between 2 strong persons and wondering when you will crash is not the best way to start your holidays.
- Private driver.
It's in my opinion the best in term of stress-free travel. The driver will pick you up anywhere you want, at the airport or at your hotel. He will drive you directly to your resort or hotel in Koh Chang. He will take the ferry tickets for you and be in the ferry with you too. You really don't have to worry about anything.
From Bangkok to Koh Chang, door-to-door service, count about 4000-4200 baht per way and for 4 persons, including the ferry tickets. For more information, if you want to get an offer or just book a private transfer, please fill this form.
- By plane.
This is the most expensive and sometimes not the fastest, depending of the transit time you will have. Then once arrived at Trat airport you will need to take a taxi to the ferry or directly to your resort. You can find the time table and prices on Bangkok Airways website.
Let's talk about Koh Chang!
Here is a nice family resort I would like to recommend. Tarzan Island Resort and Restaurant is located in Bailan, between Lonely Beach and Bang Bao and on the hill side. It's at only 5 minutes walk from Lisca Beach, a small beach in the bay of Bailan.
The owners who are a Thai family are taking a big importance to their guests and they try to make you feel like in your home. At the end of your stay you will maybe even feel like a member of their family.
They have 30 bungalows located around their big, clean, quiet and beautiful tropical garden. All the bungalows have a garden view and they all have a traditional Thai style.
They also have a nice restaurant which is opened all day long and where they play live Blues music in the evening.
Like I was speaking about Lisca Beach, here is a nice place to spend the day while enjoying the beach. Tid Koh Studio at Lisca Beach is a great place to enjoy few drinks, snacks or why not their Monday lunch paella.
Don't miss their Happy Hour, which is everyday from 17.00 to 18.00 and you will get beers for 50 baht and all cocktails for 100 baht.
They also sale handmade beach products.
SALT Beach Bistro which is located in Kai Bae is proposing Yoga courses every Monday, Wednesday, Friday and Sunday at 9.00 (am). And if Yoga is not your thing, try their scallops with garlic butter, they are just delicious!
Thaifun has started their new season. If there is something you have to do when you will be on Koh Chang, it's to spend one day with Thaifun. You will see, you won't be disappointed.
Like the tour takes a full day, travelling between the different small islands and snorkelling, their serve a lunch buffet onboard and which is included to the tour. Here is what you can expect:
(Pictures from อดิเรก หลุยส์ , aka Luis)
Suncity View from Lonely Beach is all the time innovating, with the food but also with the atmosphere. They have now a colourful beach bar where you can enjoy late snacks and drinks while listening the music. Their Food Truck, which is in fact a trailer is also new. And the last innovation is the KFC, the KohChang Fried Chicken. With French fries, vegetables, dip sauces or just like that, you can order them and eat them whenever you want.
It's a great place to also enjoy the sunset. Desserts are always huge and delicious, it's a place you have to stop-by and try.
Some of you will stay in an apartment or a private villa and you maybe want sometimes to cook by yourself.
With more than 18 years of experience in hydro and organic farming, Koh Chang Hydroponics Farm are producing and selling (to hotels, resorts but also to private people) high quality vegetables. They are located in Klong Prao, opposite side of Bhu Tarn Resort.
I will end the news update with this tasty panini from The Journey. Their red container is located behind the quiet beach of Klong Kloi, in the bay of Bang Bao.

Opened since last week, Fig Cafe is a new place I recommend in Kai Bae.
Fig Cafe is specialised in Coffee and Veggie Food. It's located at Koh Chang Residence, in the alley of AWA Resort's parking and it's opened only during the high season, daily from 7.30 am to 4.00 pm.
There also serve breakfast, lunch and brunch. They have excellent home made juices and their veggie menu proposes a large choice of very healthy and delicious food.
On top of the food, you will enjoy the stylish decoration, the zen and peaceful atmosphere and the nice staff who is also the owner.
For more information, visit their Facebook page.

From the living room you will get into the bedroom. Behind the bedroom you can find your own private bathroom.

2.5 Rai (4,000 sqm.) Waterfront Land Salak Phet - 12.5 Million
This large plot of land is located in beautiful Salak Phet Bay close to Salak Phet Seafood restaurant. The land has Nor Sor Sam Gor title, which is a secure title deed.
The land has absolute waterfront and then rises up a hillside back from the water’s edge, offering fantastic views out over the island-filled bay.
Bungalow Resort - 6.9M Baht
This Pearl Beach Resort has a long lease on 3 rai of land, very high guest ratings and is great deal at this reduced price.
The resort is set in large beautifully landscaped gardens and they have recently leased a second adjacent piece of land so the overal property size is now three Rai (4,800 square metres). This extra piece of land offers huge potential to expand the existing business by adding more rooms. At the moment the resort has six bungalows, one 2 bedroom house, a large bar and restaurant with owner accommodation; as well as a separate area with 5 smaller rooms that are rented long term.
Five of the bugalows are air-conditioned, as is the house.
The resort is very well established and has over time built up a great reputation with online booking agencies. Since this is where most business comes from then all you need to do is to keep up existing standards and you are pretty much guaranteed regular advance bookings and trade. It’s current online booking ratings are as follows:
On TripAdvisor the resort has a rating of 5 Stars – the Top rating possible. On Booking.com their rating of 8.3/10 is amongst the highest on Koh Chang – and bookings flow in low season and high.

The following news are in cooperation with The Koh Chang Guide.
Next week Thailand will hold the cremation of revered King HRH Bhumibol Adulyadej. Here are more information on this event for you below.
Many people are wondering about how the Royal Cremation will affect Thailand? The events and ceremonies surrounding the Cremation will occur from October 25th to 29th. The actual Cremation ceremony will take place at Sanam Luang in Bangkok on Friday the 26th of October. This will be a public holiday.
Obviously it's a sad time for Thais so please respect that. Most Thais will wear black but visitors aren't expected to, you can if you like though. Otherwise just be tolerant and respectful and all will be well. Here's some more detail from the Tourist Authority of Thailand. And here is some more information on the actual Cremation ceremony.
All of Thailand's provinces will be holding ceremonies as well in specially constructed temples.
Pictured below is the one in the centre of Trat Town.
In Koh Chang there will be a memorial ceremony on the 26th of October at Klong Nonsi Temple which is in Dan Mai village on the East Coast of the island. It will begin at 9:09am and last through the day until 10pm.
- High Speed Rail Link Between Airports (and further?)
It looks like Thailand is going to go ahead with bold plans for a 200 Billion Baht high speed rail link that will join Bangkok's Suvarnabhumi and Don Muang airports with U-Tapao airport in Rayong province. This will obviously be handy for getting between them and also for getting down to Pattaya and end-of-the-line stop Rayong from Bangkok.
What's interesting for Koh Chang is that dotted yellow line on the route map that seems to be headed our way. Wouldn't it be cool to jump on a high speed train down here?
So there are just hints at the moment that this might part of future infrastructure development in Thailand. Check out the full story here at the Bangkok Post.

- Koh Chang Guide October 2017
This is the place that you can see the latest issue of The Koh Chang Guide. As always it has bang up-to-date maps and all kinds of information and features on Koh Chang.
You can read and download the fully interactive PDF version here or if you have any issues on mobile devices then try here.
- Koh Chang Treasure Map October 2017
- Koh Kood and Koh Mak Map 2018
Here is the new Koh Mak Map, it's double the size of the old one and it's got Koh Kood on it as well. If you haven't been to either of these islands yet, and it's surprising how many people haven't, then you need to remedy that right now. Download this map and go already!
You can check it out here or if you have any issues on mobile devices then try here.
- Koh Chang's New "Road"
Road widening is still taking place down the West Coast of Koh Chang. There aren't any lane markings that make any sense, there are all kinds of holes and spikes and dangerous bits and the old road is still falling to bits. This is likely to continue all through the high season (and probably forever). Nobody knows how to drive on the new road, and this is in a place where most people don't know how to drive anyway.
A lot of people are going to get killed on this road. I guess we're not supposed to say that, but it's true. So please don't let it be you. Be super careful.
Drive on the road like it's the most dangerous road you ever drove on in your life - because it is.
04 October 2017
You have maybe noticed that lots of Thai Facebook profile pictures have turned to black & white with a black ribbon.
One year ago, on the 13th of October 2016, His Majesty the King of Thailand, Bhumibol Adulyadej, who has been the world's longest-serving monarch and the most loved by his nation, died at the age of 88. After one year of mourning, there will be the funerals and here are some information if you are coming or already are in Thailand during this time.
13th October is a new public holiday marking the death of His Majesty King Bhumibol. This will take place every year from now onwards.
The royal funeral will take place from 25th to 29th of October 2017 but the actual cremation ceremony will be on Thursday 26th of October which has been declared as a public holiday (only this year) so that people can attend the funerals.
There will be rehearsals for the royal procession at Sanam Luang on 7th, 15th and 21st October. It is not confirmed, but you should be able to take photos of this. But please dress respectfully.
The royal crematorium on Sanam Luang will be open to the public from 1st to 30th November, from 7.00 am to 10.00 pm.
There will be restrictions on alcohol sales during the funerals, no loud music and parties will be allowed. In Koh Chang, restaurants, hotels and resorts will be opened normally. Some small Thai businesses may be closed.
If you are coming from Bangkok, be aware that there will be thousands of people waiting for the funerals; the road and air traffics will be higher than normally. If you need a transport during this time, be sure to book it in advance. During this time, please respect Thai people and their beloved King, be discrete. You are very welcome to wear black clothes or a black ribbon which are given for free at different places. If possible, avoid colourful clothes in public places, especially in Bangkok and big cities.
The ceremony will be broadcasted live on all Thai TV channels.
On the beach and inside the resort, you can be dressed as usually.
25 September 2017
I just finished to review a new resort and I added it to my recommendation list.
This one is not in Koh Chang but in Koh Kood, on the east coast and on Ao Tapao beach, the longest beach of the island. Koh Kood is the second biggest island of Koh Chang archipelago. Compared to Koh Chang, Koh Kood is extremely quiet, the road traffic is as quiet as life on the island and except diving, snorkelling, visiting the 3 waterfalls, the 500 years old tree and the fishermen village, the only thing you can do is to relax and enjoy the silence and nature.
If you're looking for fullmon parties or nightlife, avoid Koh Kood, it's then not made for you.
Koh Kood Paradise Beach Resort is a new resort on the island, recently built. They propose different types of bungalow, that they call "Villa", and "hotel type" rooms. They have a modern and big fitness center, the biggest swimming-pool of the island and an excellent restaurant.
It has also a score of 8.2 on Booking.com.
