Yesterday a whale shark has been seen off the coasts of Koh Chang.
Don't worry, this kind of shark is harmless to human, it's moving slowly, mouth wide opened to filter the water and to feed exclusively of plankton. They are scary by their size but if you would have the chance to meet one of them during your dive you will realise how majestic they are.
Unfortunately if you are going to the different snorkelling spots you will not be able to see a whale shark, they normally don't swim in shallow waters and close to the coasts.

Do you know what is a Khanom Krok or have you ever tasted it?
A Khanom Krok is a Thai coconut pudding which is sweet and which can be eaten like that as a snack or as a dessert and it's delicious.
There are different variations but it's mainly made of rice flour, coconut, sugar, steamed rice and green onion. They are often prepared on the street side. They are quite cheap, around 20 baht the punnet of 5 and it's better to eat them warm.
The first rice flour mix is cooked followed by the sweet coconut milk topping. You should try them.

And finally Thaifun is back!
After a low season to rest, and to take care of the boat they are operating again. The boat has been cleaned, checked, serviced and repainted and the famous Noknoi, Wat, Yeng, Prom, the lovely Captain and the rest of the crew are now ready to welcome you everyday and to entertain you.
In the program, fun, fun, fun, snorkelling, eating and more fun ;)

This week the weather in Koh Chang has been similar to a woman's mood :)
One day it was raining, the other day sunny and blue sky. But anyway the temperature is still very warm and rain or not it feels always good in a swimming-pool. The sea is still a bit dangerous and better to avoid it when there are red flags.
Tomorrow school will start again on Koh Chang and kids are enjoying their last day of holidays. And the high season will also start with higher rates in all resorts, hotels and B&B and of course more visitors. You can always find the best rates here!
And finally if you are panning to come to Koh Chang and still don't know how to get there, why not to travel with a private driver? I really recommend you Ing Taxi, he is very serious, safe and not expensive at all. Only 3500 bath for 4 persons (+ ferry tickets) from anywhere in Bangkok to anywhere on Koh Chang.
Don't wait the last moment to contact him, Ing and his teammates have already a lot of bookings for the end of this year and beginning of 2017.

T.P. Hut Bungalows in Pearl beach is now ready for the high season.
They have spent the last months to renovate and upgrade all their bungalows. Last year the new owners already replaced all the mattresses by new ones. This year the roofs and ceilings have been replaced.
If you are looking for a quiet resort, away from the busy main road and not so far from the beach, then have a look at T.P. Hut Bungalows.

The "high season" has started for the resorts which means more tourists then higher rates but the weather hasn't been very good. It has been raining and very cloudy.
And when it's raining, roads are slippery and more dangerous. It's better to not use motorbikes if you don't want to end at the Koh Chang clinic like it has happened to few people this week.
Every year during October, thousands of jellyfishes go along the coast of Trat. Then they will all disappear until next year.
There are small boats going to those jellyfishes swarms if you are interested. Against few hundreds of bath a guide will bring you there.
Don't worry, those swarms don't go to Koh Chang but there has been few jellyfishes seen in the sea on different beaches. Some are harmless, others can sting. It's better to avoid them all and stay on the sand.
Next month there shouldn't be anymore.
I will end with a nice story.
One year ago a poor stray dog was found in Klong Son, at the Chinese temple.
With the help and love of Tina from Happy Dogs, Christine from Boonya Resort and Lea, this dog has been cured and it's now a loved and lovely pet.
Tina is the person on Koh Chang who has devoted her life to save the dogs. It's more than a passion, she really loves animals and dogs especially. Tina spends her life, energy, time and money to feed, rescue and cured all the dogs. If you want to help her, just send her a message from her Facebook page or contact me and I will forward her your message.
All kind of help is welcome, money, medicine, food, anything to help "her" dogs.

A new place where to stay has been added to the recommendation list!
Sea You Place is a small, cheap and comfortable resort located in Bang Bao, nearby Klong Kloi beach. With only a few bungalows, a very nice owner, not so far from the beach, close to Klong Kloi village and close to the nature, this place is perfect if you want to be away from the busy west coast.

If you haven't already read it on the different social media or see it in the News, our beloved King has passed away yesterday morning at the Siriraj Hospital in Bangkok at the age of 88.
We are all very sad and the whole country is in mourning.
His Majesty the King of Thailand, Bhumibol Adulyadej has been the world's longest-serving monarch and the most loved by his nation. We will all miss him :(
Yesterday evening streets were very calm, no music in the bars or restaurants. Today and for few days a lot of Thai businesses will be remain closed.
The King's body will be moved tomorrow afternoon from the hospital to the Grand Palace.

Crust Bakery is my favourite bakery on Koh Chang. It's located in Klong Prao village, just next to 7-11 supermarket and in front of Wat Kong Prao, the temple.
They have the widest selection of breads but also cakes and pastries. Naming them will be too long but believe me, they are delicious.
Without forgetting their ice creams, coffees, sandwiches, salads and breakfast.

The Koh Chang Rescue Team is composed of voluntaries who are ready to risk their lives to save yours, 24 hours a day and 365 days per year, no matter what time it is and how is the weather.
Drowning, road accidents, fallen trees on the road, fire, animal rescue, ... they are all the time present. Even to catch snakes when they are too close or inside habitations or like today, repairing the roads by filling those big potholes.
They are Koh Chang heroes.
To be more efficient they are now building a radio station in Chai Chet, nearby the Crocodile and Snake show.
All donations are welcome to achieve this project.
If you are in Koh Chang and if you are willing to help them, stop by at the Crocodile and Snake Show (in Chai Chet, not the one near Klong Plu waterfall which is now closed) and give them what you can. Even the smallest donations are welcome.

Kai Bae is a small quiet village located on the west coast between Klong Prao and Lonely Beach. There are a lot of shops, restaurants, pubs,.... anything you need to spend nice and safe holidays in Koh Chang as well as nice resorts, hotels and guesthouses. The small beach is lovely and also quiet. Kai Bae could compared to White Sand Beach but smaller and quieter.

You have maybe heard about Panviman Resort which located on the south part of Klong Prao beach. The resort has a new management and a new name which is now Santhiya Tree Koh Chang Resort.
Some of you who have visited Panviman in the past may be a bit confused like it's still named Panviman Resort on some booking websites.
